In terms of population, the barnacle deserves
some sort of award. They have been known to reach a
rate of 2 billion per square mile of beach front.
They are more famous, however, for attatching
themselves to ships, the cost of this to the
shipping industry is an easy 1 billion dollars a
year due to their slowing down of fleets, wasted
fuel, and cost per man hour of having people
constantly scrape off Barnacles from thier boats.
At the same time, it has been the study of
barnacles that has led to the discovery of the
strongest water-proof glue known which is now used
in securing caps and other dental -needs.
