Mosquitoes are unique in that only the
females suck blood (males simply spread
pollen, thereby helping flowers). While
hiking in New Hampshire one fall I felt
something on my arm. When I looked down
and saw this little blood-pill she was
trying to fly but was so fat on my blood,
she couldn't. Instead of squishing her
then and there (and splotting myself with
blood stains), I let her go and watched
her fat abdomen fly almost straight down
to a tree trunk, where I photographed her.
