John Dukes Photography Wildflower series
Wallflowers title
Self-portrait of me and a saguaro cactus

John, a self-taught photographer, amassed a library of over 25,000 landscapes, mammals, coastal themes, fall colors and other images of nature, but his recent works are dramatically different, focusing on recognizable subjects photographed from unique perspectives. Concerning his limited edition series, WallFlowers, John says, "I was inspired not only by the great contrast but also by the one-of-a-kind view. Crawling around on the desert floor gave me an intimate perspective. Flowers that looked like everyday flowers from above suddenly had traits and emotions: most were fun, lively, and uplifting; others had a sense of longing; some took on relationships with other flowers."

The WallFlowersseries is comprised of 35 mm. photographs, scanned into a digital format, then printed on canvas by way of a process called Giclee (Gee-Clay - French: "a spray of ink"). They are rated as having a non-fading lifetime of 70+ years. Each image in this series comes with a limited-edition certificate.

Being printed on canvas provides the texture of a painting, while still retaining the extreme detail of a photograph. I ship them stretched on what are called "stretcher bars," (basically a wooden frame that the canvas wraps around). Also, I do what is called a "Museum wrap" which means you see one to two inches of the canvas (depending on size) as it wraps around the wood. This is a very finished and modern look, which doesn't require an additional frame.
